Yard Shunter / HGV Shunter Training
What Is a Yard Shunter / HGV Shunter?
Yard shunters, also known as HGV shunters, are skilled operatives trained to safely manoevre large vehicles within the company’s premises and off-road parking areas closed to the public. Their training helps to minimise the risk of workplace collisions that could result in serious or fatal injuries.
Why take a Yard Shunter / HGV Shunter course?
This training course will cover how to safely manoeuvre trailers (laden and unladen) while following strict health and safety guidelines. This includes inspecting vehicles and trailers, and completing safety assessments to ensure proper handover procedures when passing goods to other workers.
The yard shunter/HGV shunter training course aims to enhance worker safety when moving vehicles on-site, by increasing awareness of risks specific to depot environments and by understanding the correct coupling/uncoupling procedures.
Drivers will learn to recognise potential dangers, understand the recommended HSE code of signals, and efficiently manoeuvre large articulated vehicles and trailers around the site in a safe manner.
Who is a Yard Shunter / HGV Shunter course for?
The course is designed for individuals who want to become a yard shunter or HGV shunter with little to no prior experience in this role. The course duration will be 2 days, based on the operative’s experience and type of driving license. For candidates who do not have a Class B driving license, a customised training course can be arranged upon request.
For those who have previous shunter experience and want to either refresh their knowledge or enhance their existing skills, the shunter course will last 1 day, depending on the operative’s experience and type of driving license.
